Criminal Defense Attorney Protecting the Rights of Clients Who Are Under Investigation

No matter your income or station in life, if you are accused of a crime, you will probably be at a disadvantage. Whether the case involves drug charges, corporate fraud, money laundering, or other serious criminal charges, law enforcement officers and prosecutors will work hard to pursue a conviction, and the resources they bring to a criminal investigation are likely to make anyone feel overwhelmed and concerned.

If you are the subject of a government investigation related to criminal charges, you need an experienced, dedicated attorney who will ensure that investigations and searches do not violate your rights. The knowledgeable attorneys of Komie and Associates understand how governmental investigations work, and we can give you the confidence you need to defend yourself when you are under investigation.

A History of Success in Criminal Investigations

Throughout Attorney Stephen M. Komie's 40-year career, he has successfully defended clients in a wide variety of criminal cases, and he is skilled at uncovering when governmental investigations have violated his clients' rights and ensuring that evidence gathered during illegal searches is inadmissible in court. He not only will help you understand how to respond to investigators' questions but provide guidance on how to compose yourself in these situations as you seek to defend yourself both in court and in the sphere of public opinion.

In 2017, Mr. Komie won a landmark case before the Illinois Supreme Court against Illinois state prosecutor Brian Towne, who had created a team of investigators to patrol a stretch of interstate highway in LaSalle County, Illinois and intercept suspected drug traffickers. Mr. Komie argued that a prosecutor operating what was effectively his own police force was a clear violation of separation of powers. The Illinois Supreme Court ruled 5-2 in Mr. Komie's favor, finding that Mr. Towne and other prosecutors who create their own police squads in the name of investigation clearly overstep their authority.
