Fighting to Protect Your Rights

Stephen Komie is passionate about protecting against the abuse of people's rights by law enforcement agents, and he has demonstrated this through his record of fighting against the overuse of asset forfeiture. Many law enforcement agencies and prosecutors have been accused of seizing money and property from people in order to generate revenue rather than to fight crime, and Mr. Komie is dedicated to recovering illegally seized property for his clients.

Mr. Komie has won many asset forfeiture cases, including the landmark 1995 case of U.S. v. $506,231.00, in which the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned a lower court's ruling and ordered funds which had been seized by the Chicago Police Department to be returned to Mr. Komie's client. The Court stated, "[w]e reiterate that the government may not seize money, even half a million dollars, based on its bare assumption that most people do not have huge sums of money lying about, and if they do, they must be involved in narcotics trafficking or some other sinister activity."

Tireless Advocacy That Inspires Confidence

"Mr. Komie is an incredible attorney, but he has also been a friend of mine who has helped me through the entire criminal defense process. He has been there to counsel me on how to get through a stressful situation, how to dress, and how to hold myself in the most professional manner. I was facing time in prison, and Mr. Komie gave me the confidence to trust him and put my life in his hands. I have a bright future thanks to him being a guardian angel for myself and my family. The gratitude can never truly be expressed." - Cara R.

My advise is if your in a jam and need a lawyer, hire Stephen! When it comes to you freedom don't spare the expense, you get what you pay for.

    - David Lozada Otero

  • I am a licensed professional in Illinois. I had a client harass and attempt to slander my name with my professional board. I hired Mr. Komie as a referral from another attorney. He works with integrity and precision. He is a very competent attorney that is compassionate as well. Mr. Komie has been honest and upfront throughout the process. Not only has he been successful but, has exceeded my expectations in this matter. I would highly recommend him.

    - Satisfied Customer

  • Stephen Komie was so competent, considerate, and such a good advocate for my son who was facing cannabis trafficking charges. The mandatory sentencing laws in Illinois are draconian and Mr. Komie was successful in having the worst of the charges dropped in spite of the over-zealous efforts by the state's magistrate. When we had occasion to meet with Mr. Komie or speak on the phone, we were confident that we could not have secured a better attorney for my son. I highly recommend Mr. Komie without reservation.
